Paul Claude BRAUNSCHWEIGER

  General Notes:

He was born in a log cabin on Ottawa River in Toledo OH
He looked very much like his father. His grandson Randy White greatly resembles both of them.

Paul used his inheritance to purchase land in a development on Lake Erie just south of Monroe. On this land he built a summer cottage for his family. This was a treasured vacation spot for the family.

Grandpa was a born mechanic and tinkerer. Family oral history states that he would take apart and reassemble his Model T Ford on a regular basis. He was also renowned for being able to completely circumnavigate a chair without his feet touching the ground.

Grandpa was the installer for the presses of the Toledo Blade - I believe this was in the 30's. He was always building new gadgets. He even built his own boat.
He loved to fish and was very content to take his boat out to Harbor Light and spend the day catching perch. He was a gentle, quiet, highly intelligent man.

Paul Braunschweiger

Paul C. Braunschweiger, 75, of 3248 Jeanette Ave., died Wednesday in Mercy Hospital. Mr. Braunschweiger was a lifelong Toledo resident. He was a projectionist for 50 years, the last 25 at the palace Theater. He retired 25 years ago. He was a member of the Local 228, Motion Picture Operators Union, and a former member of River View Yacht Club. Surviving are his wife, Magdalena; daughters, Mrs. Emily Palm and Mrs. Kathryn White; sisters, Mrs. Alma Baird and Mrs. Ruth Toepfer; brother, Karl and three grandchildren, all of Toledo. The body is in the Foth Mortuary, Jefferson Avenue. Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the mortuary, with burial in Toledo Memorial Park.

Note: The above obituary is transcribed as it appeared in the newspaper. However it is clearly in error since it has him retiring 25 years before his death, and then having him also work for 50 years before that. Since he was only 75 when he died he must have begun work just as a baby! He had been retired for 5 years.

Toledo birth records lists his parents as John J Braunschweiger and Catherine Eckenroth. The original record was listed as Claude P and this was corrected on 4/27/1942
