Andrew NEILL
- Born: Apr 1755, Burke Co NC
- Marriage: Mary Moffet McDOWELL
- Died: Abt 1741, Marshall Co TN, about age -14
General Notes:
Pension application mentions stepson Joseph McDowell His wife is listed as daughter of George Cathey Sr. so presumably her first husband was McDowell and then she married Andrew. Same pension application mentions him being swindled in his property and his son murdered. Also that his stepson Joseph McDowell brought Andrew from marengo Co Alabama to Marshall Tn.
In a suit in Wilson Co TN brought by Robert Neill against the heirs of George Cathey Sr and Captain William Neill, Andrew is referred to as the son of Captain William. Mary (Andrews wife) is referred to as the daughter of George Cathey, Sr. As per the application they appear to have no issue. However, his land in Alabama was later owned by J.C. Neill who was in command of the Alamo at the time of the famous massacre. J.C. Neill was on leave on that particular day and since the communications at the time were so bad it is quite likely that his father in Tennessee thought him killed. This info is from another researcher. However given that he claims to have been swindled and this was after he was brought back from Alabama then presumably the land was swindled from him before he made his application. Obviously this is very unclear.
Noted events in his life were:
• Occupation: pension Rev War Approved 1840 AP.R7580.
Andrew married Mary Moffet McDOWELL.
