State=Wide Prohibition Bill to Be Introduced By Democratic Senator
Thomas Dorrell of Greenwood Hopes All Members, Regardless of Parties, Will Support the Measure.
State Senator Thomas Dorrell, democrat, of Brown, Johnson and Monroe counties, will introduce in the senate, the first day of the coming session of the legislature, a bill for statutory, state-wide prohibition. Senator Dorrell says he will make a fight for the measure. The bill is being drafted under Senator Dorrell's direction, and will be presented in proper form, proof against all constitutional and other test. Dorrell is a farmer. he lives at Greenwood.
"State-wide prohibition is not a party measure," says Senator Dorrell. "I hope to obtain support for my bill for statutory state-wide prohibition from republicans as well as from democrats. The fight will not be made on party lines, so far as I am concerned.
"I am for statutory state-wide prohibiti8on because I am at heart a temperance man, and I know my people want prohibition.
"The saloon has created an economic question which can only be solved through such a law as I propose to have enacted.
"Until we have a new constitution which provides for constitutional prohibition, we are in a position to do the next best thing, and that is to enact a statutory law on the subject.
"I have made inquiries and I do not find that any other state senator plans such a bill as I am preparing to introduce.
"No doubt there will be action by some member of the house.
" In any event, the lawmakers will have an opportunity to take their places in line for statutory state-wide prohibition.
"I am hopeful that we will be able to gtet it at the coming session."
