Promoted to corporal and then sargeant on 3/1/1863.

Fought at Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville
Worked for Lebanon Furnaces, eventually becoming Superintendent of the furnaces. Helped invent a device for cooling the top of a blast furnace and a charging apparatus. Made manager of outside business for the Coleman Family (owners of Lebanon Furnace)
7/2/1863 commissioned 2nd lieutenant of Company H, 48th regiment of the PA Emergency Troops Mustered out 8/26/1963
Captain of Company G, Eighth regiment and participated in the trouble in the coal regions.
