William LANCASTER
"William Lancaster was drafted and served in a company of Virginia militia commanded by Capt. William Buckner of Col. Harvey's regiment. He joined the said company 20 Jan., 1779, and served upwards of two months. He was stationed as a guard at Albermarle Barracks over British and Hessian prisoners. IN 1780 he was drafted and served in Capt. Benjamin Johnson's compnay of Virginia militia of Orange County, and served ninety days. In 1781 he was drafted in July or August, and placed under the command of Abner Porter, commissary of the army, and served four months' making the whole nearly ten months." (Switzerland County, Ind., Probate Co rt Record Book A, p. 323). William married Mary "Polly" WEBB, daughter of George WEBB and Anne BICKERTON, in 1772 in Orange Co, Virginia. (Mary "Polly" WEBB was born about 1752 in Virginia and died in 1799 in Mason, Kentucky.) William also married Sarah SMITH on Sep 11, 1813 in Mason Co, KY. (Sarah SMITH died on Feb 18, 1848.) |
