General Notes:
Farmed in Illinois until 1870 when he moved westward Grew up in Richwood neighborhood in Boone Co, Ky. Around 1851 he accompanied his spinster Aunt Lucinda Lancaster to Tazewell Co, Il. She was going to join her brother Joseph who had settled there in 1829. Farmed land in Hittle Township, Tazewell Co, IL adjacent to a farm owned by his father-in-law. In 1870 the family moved to Fall River Twonship, Wilson Co, Kansas to join two of Matilda's brothers. Followin the second land run in 1893 the family lived in Pawnee Co, Oklahoma. In 1900 James and his youngest son, "Dude", to Woods Cross, Utah and followed Dude to Washington state, Adams Co, northwest of Ritzville. By continuing to buy land they acquired one of the largest ranches in the area. He died at his home at the age of 79. His wife, Matilda, died at the home of their son William in Warden, Washington at the age of 75. A twelve year old grandson, "Dude's" son, Elmer, was murdered by his divorced stepfather in 1915 and is buried between his grandparents.
