Obit; DEATH'S SUDDEN CALL JOHN ADDISON RAPER, SOLDIER AND CITIZEN FOUND DEAD IN BED

John Addison Raper, an old soldier and a well known citizen, was found dead at 8:30 o'clock Friday morning by his son John Raper Jr. Mr. Raper had expired suddenly and without a moment's warning at his home near White Hall. Heart trouble was the course of death, Mr. Raper had been subject to light attacks for several years. He was feeling unusually well all day yesterday and when he retired last night. His little grandson was sleeping with him but was not awakened. The son, who was sleeping up stairs heard his father's labored breathing and hurried down to the bed side, but the old gentleman had breath his last.

John Raper was 77 years of age, was born near White Hall, July 12th 1829, having spent all his life in that vicinity. His wife died several years ago. Mr. Raper was a life long member of the United Presbyterian Church, and three grown sons survive him, William, Thomas and John Raper He leaves three brothers and four sisters, Mrs. A. Neill, Mrs. Emma Hendrix, of this city; Mrs. Wesley Brown, Mrs. Sack Hendrix, of Owen County; W.B. and Joseph Raper of Pawnee, Neb., and Mrs. Henry Smith, of Lincoln, Neb.

Mr. Raper was a soldier in the civil war. He enlisted in Co. E. of the 148th, Indiana, Infantry and served faithfully until the close of the war. The funeral will be held some time Sunday and the remain will be interred in the White Hall graveyard.

Grandson mentioned in obit. Was Roy Addison. John was a teacher and education was important to him. Roy's mother died when he was six. ( Arminta Sims). John Sr. was going to raise Roy and see that he got an education. Unfortunately he died too soon.
