"William Alpheus Gregg, Son of Ira T and Alzina H . Gregg was born June 12, 1854near Greenwood, Johnson Co, INd. After attending the common schools he went to DePauw University at Greencastle Ind and graduated in 1876. He received two diplomas from this institution, one of B.S. the other M.S. He taught school and was also a farmer but his ambition was to be a journalist. He married Miss Margaret E. Street July 15th 1880 near Sweetser Grant Co Indiana. In 1882 he moved with his wife to Nebr. Going across country in a covered wagon, (Laughingly called a "Prairie Schooner") and settled in Custer Co., Nebraska, five miles Northwest of Broken Bow., taking up a preemption of 160 acres government land for which $125 per acre was required to be paid in 33 months. In 1885 he moved to Lincoln Co Nebr. which joined Custer Co on the west , and took up more land, 160 acres Timber Claim on which had to be planted ten acres of trees and 160 acres Homestead which required five years residence to obtain a deed on patent from the government. In 1890 he was appointed PostMaster of Willard Nebr and the office was kept in his home. He was also Justice of the peace and while holding this office he performed one marriage ceremony that of William Manery and Eliza Flowers. In 1893 & 4 he wrote special articles for the Custer Co Republican, going all over the county writing the history of the settlers. In 1898 he removed to North Platte Nebr the county seat of Lincoln Co and engaged in general merchandising untilhis death June (, 1909. Died of Brights disease and interred in North Platte Cemetery. In 1894, W. A. and M. E. Gregg took into their home and hearts a motherless girl named Mary Emma Barcus, Born May 1st 1892, who was loved and cared for as their own. She Married Claude J. Stimson (A fine carpenter) on Dec 22, 1910 and to them have been born the following children: Vera June Stimson born June 26, 1916 in North Platte Nebr 509 S. Walnut St Robert Lawrencde Stimson Born July 15, 1918 at 505 So. Chestnut St. North Platte Nebr. Claire Louise Stimson Born November 8, 1920 at 505 so Chestnut St. North platte Nebr. Claude Chenoweth Stimson Born March 10, 1923 at The Love Hospital Rogers, Benton Co. Ark. This written in here by Margaret E. Gregg, widow of William A. Gregg, in 1924.
